Christopher (Chris) Thomas Dorsey (Born February 21, 1965) is American television and giant screen film producer who is founding partner of Denver-based Dorsey Pictures [1](a Global 100 factual production company[2]), and Mission Partners Entertainment Group. Dorsey Pictures has produced more than 120 television series across 20 networks[3], including Discovery Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, Destination America, Velocity TV, HGTV, DIY Network, Magnolia, Fox Nation, and National Geographic. He is a conservation thought leader,[4] media strategist[5] and philanthropist. He’s also a journalist who has authored hundreds of articles[6] and books[7] on natural history and conservation subjects.

Early Life

Christopher Dorsey was born on February 21, 1965, in Madison, Wisconsin, and raised in the farming community of DeForest. Immersed in nature from an early age, Dorsey developed a passion for the outdoors, which later shaped his career and advocacy. His upbringing introduced him to hunting, angling, and trapping, fostering a deep understanding of conservation.

Dorsey graduated from DeForest Area High School, where he was inducted into the Legends of the Outdoors Hall of Fame[8]. He later attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP), the nation’s largest natural resources college[9]. At UWSP, he earned degrees in English and Natural Resource Management. His time at UWSP included serving as editor of the student newspaper, The Pointer. [10]

Giant Screen & IMAX Natural History Films

Dorsey’s passion for conservation inspired him to venture into IMAX filmmaking. His 2022 film Wings Over Water, narrated by Michael Keaton,[25] highlighted the ecological importance of North America’s prairie wetlands.[26] This project is part of a larger initiative to integrate conservation education[27] into 10,000 U.S. school systems.

Through his Mission Partners Entertainment Group, Dorsey has advanced conservation communication, creating films and curricula that raise awareness about endangered ecosystems, such as the Great Salt Lake and the Gulf Coast. Secrets of Great Salt Lake with Mike Rowe will be released in 2025[28] and Upstream: The Journey Home will be released in 2026.

Chris Dorsey is married to Amy Dorsey, and they have twin sons. The family splits their time between homes in Colorado, and South Carolina.
