Caroline Pettey (born c. 1995) is an American journalist and beauty pageant titleholder who currently works for FOX 2 in St. Louis, Missouri.[1] She was crowned Miss South Dakota USA in April 2021 after previously holding the title of Miss Rapid City. During her reign, she supported Working Against Violence, Inc., a domestic abuse treatment center based in South Dakota.[2]
Early life and education
A native of Alabama, Pettey attended Auburn University, where she majored in broadcast journalism with a focus on sports media.[3]
Pageantry
After being crowned Miss South Dakota USA, Pettey went on to compete in Miss USA 2021, part of the Miss Universe Organization. The national pageant took place from November 26–29, 2021, at the Paradise Cove Theater at the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[4] Throughout the competition, empowering and educating women on their personal power and purpose was especially important to her. She placed in the Top 16 at Miss USA 2021.[5]
Career
Early career and sports journalism
While attending Auburn University, Pettey interned with ESPNU and SB Nation, which led to her first post-graduate role as a journalist covering the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA.
Transition to news
In 2019, she accepted a position at KOTA/KEVN, a duopoly television station in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she worked as a weeknight anchor, journalist, and producer.
Event planning work
In 2023, Pettey began working in event planning at a boutique firm in Washington, D.C., serving clients such as Netflix and the Smithsonian.
FOX 2 St. Louis
In early 2024, Pettey moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where she joined FOX 2 as a reporter. She covers a wide range of stories, including breaking news, human interest features, and community-based reporting.
Community involvement and personal life
Pettey is actively involved with several nonprofit organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club and the Urban League.
