Calloway's Nursery is a Texas-based chain of garden centers specializing in plants, gardening supplies, and outdoor living products. Established in 1986, the company operates under the names Calloway's Nursery and Cornelius Nursery and serves customers through its retail locations across Texas.
History
[edit]Calloway's Nursery was founded in 1986 by Jim Estill, John Cosby, and Pete Craig, who were former executives of Wolfe Nursery, a regional garden center chain. Their vision was to create a customer-focused retail nursery experience that emphasized quality, selection, and horticultural expertise. The first Calloway’s Nursery location opened in North Texas, and the business gradually expanded across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.
In 1999, Calloway's acquired the assets of Houston-based Cornelius Nursery, a well-known garden center with a history dating back to 1938. The acquisition allowed Calloway's to expand into the Houston market while preserving the Cornelius brand identity.
Operations
[edit]As of 2025, Calloway's Nursery operates over 20 stores in Texas, with locations in major metropolitan areas including Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston. While stores in the Dallas–Fort Worth area operate under the Calloway's name, locations in the Houston area retain the Cornelius Nursery branding. Both brands emphasize seasonal plant offerings, regional garden education, and customer service.
The company’s operations include in-house horticulturists, landscape consultants, and regional buyers who curate plant selections suited to the Texas climate. Calloway’s and Cornelius stores also offer garden tools, fertilizers, pottery, outdoor decor, and holiday merchandise.
Corporate Structure
[edit]Calloway’s Nursery, Inc. is a publicly traded company on the OTCQX under the ticker symbol CLWY. The company is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. Its governance includes a board of directors and executive leadership with backgrounds in retail, horticulture, and finance.
Community Involvement
[edit]Calloway's Nursery has participated in regional beautification efforts, school garden partnerships, and horticultural education programs. The company has supported nonprofit organizations through donations of plants and gardening supplies and hosts seasonal events to engage local communities.
