Comment: Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) is a copyvio - RichT|C|E-Mail 14:19, 3 June 2023 (UTC)
Comment: Current draft fails WP:SIGCOV. All the sources and prose discuss the films individually, but there is no discussion of it as a series as a whole, and also goes against WP:UNDUE as we have a lack of "depth of detail, the quantity of text, prominence of placement, the juxtaposition of statements, and the use of imagery." In this case, nothing on the series as a whole, just individual reception. Andrzejbanas (talk) 14:37, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
[edit]Badrinarayan "Badri" Chaturvedi (Manoj Joshi) heads a former royal family in Varanasi, whose ancestral palace is believed to be haunted by the vengeful spirit of Manjulika (Vidya Balan), a Bengali Odissi dancer. Siddharth Chaturvedi (Shiney Ahuja), the current heir, returns from the U.S. with his wife, Avni Chaturvedi (Vidya Balan), after their whirlwind romance. Their arrival upsets Radha Chaturvedi (Ameesha Patel), Badri’s adopted daughter, who secretly loves Siddharth. Fascinated by Manjulika’s legend, Avni unknowingly releases her spirit by opening a locked room, triggering eerie occurrences, with suspicion falling on Radha.
Concerned about Radha’s behavior, Siddharth calls his psychiatrist friend, Dr. Aditya "Adi" Shrivastav (Akshay Kumar), to investigate. His unorthodox approach amuses and frustrates the family, including Batukshankar Upadhyay (Paresh Rawal) and Murari (Asrani). However, he soon discovers that Avni suffers from dissociative identity disorder and believes herself to be Manjulika. Her condition worsens when she falsely accuses poet Professor Sharad Prahlad (Vineeth) of assault, seeing him as Shashidhar (Vineeth), Manjulika’s lover. Aditya realizes that Avni perceives Siddharth as Raja Vibhuti Narayan (Shiney Ahuja), who had brutally killed Shashidhar and imprisoned Manjulika, fueling her vengeance.
Badri summons renowned exorcist Acharya Yagyaprakash Bharti (Vikram Gokhale), who turns out to be Aditya’s former mentor. As Durgashtami approaches, Aditya devises a plan to cure Avni by making her believe she has avenged Manjulika’s death. On the festival night, Avni, fully possessed, performs a ritualistic dance. With Yagyaprakash’s help, Aditya tricks her into thinking she has killed the King, using a dummy in Siddharth’s place. Convinced that Manjulika’s revenge is complete, Avni returns to normal.
With peace restored to the palace, the family thanks Aditya. Before leaving, he hints at a future with Radha, suggesting he will send his parents to discuss marriage.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022)
[edit]In 2004, in Bhawanigarh, Rajasthan, priests and sorcerers trap the vengeful spirit of Manjulika Chatterjee (Tabu) inside a locked room after she attempts to kill her twin sister, Anjulika (Tabu), on her wedding night. The Thakur family abandons the mansion for safety.
Eighteen years later, Reet Thakur (Kiara Advani) meets Ruhaan Randhawa (Kartik Aaryan) while traveling home for her arranged marriage. After skipping their bus, which later crashes, Reet discovers her sister Trisha (Mehak Manwani) is in love with her fiancé. To unite them, she fakes her death and hides in the abandoned mansion with Ruhaan. When Ruhaan is discovered, he convinces the Thakurs that Reet's "spirit" wants them to return, earning him fame as "Rooh Baba."
Anjulika warns Ruhaan about Manjulika’s spirit and reveals how jealousy led Manjulika to embrace black magic and attack her own family. When Reet hides in Manjulika’s sealed room, the spirit is unleashed, leading to supernatural occurrences. As the family seeks help from a priest, Ruhaan appears possessed, attacking Anjulika and shocking everyone by calling her Manjulika. He then reveals the truth: the real Anjulika died in 2004, while Manjulika assumed her identity and had been living with the Thakurs ever since.
Anjulika’s spirit emerges, overpowers Manjulika, and locks her away. She bids farewell to her family before vanishing. The Thakurs leave, and the mansion is abandoned once again.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (2024)
[edit]In 1824, Rajkumari Manjulika (Vidya Balan) performs Kathak, attracting the king’s ire. Accused of treason, she is burned alive but returns as a vengeful spirit, killing the Maharaj (Denzil Smith) and her executioner.
200 years later, in 2024, Ruhaan Randhawa aka "Rooh Baba" (Kartik Aaryan) enjoys scamming people by pretending to talk to spirits. He is summoned by Meera’s uncle (Rajesh Sharma) to speak to Meera’s "ghost," but in reality, Meera is alive. Trapped in a blackmail scheme, Ruhaan is forced to visit Rakhtghat Palace—a haunted mansion where the royal family has been driven into poverty due to Manjulika’s spirit. The Rajpurohit (Manish Wadhwa) warns them to avoid Manjulika’s sealed chamber, which can only be opened on Durgashtami by a reborn royal destined to end the curse.
Upon arriving, the family is shocked by Ruhaan’s resemblance to Prince Debendranath (Kartik Aaryan, in a double role), the heir murdered in 1824. Seeing him as a reincarnation, they move back into the palace.
The Palace's Dark History
It is believed that Manjulika was the king’s daughter, and Debendranath was his illegitimate son from a servant. When the king named Debendranath as his heir, Manjulika killed him out of rage, leading the king to burn her alive. Her vengeful spirit has haunted the palace since.
As restoration begins, Mallika (Vidya Balan, in a double role) starts acting strangely, hinting at possession. Meanwhile, Ruhaan tries to escape but stays after discovering that Meera (Triptii Dimri) secretly likes him.
Ruhaan soon learns that Chhote Pandit (Rajpal Yadav), Bade Pandit (Sanjay Mishra), and Panditayeen (Ashwini Kalsekar) have been living inside Manjulika’s chamber, scaring people to stay rent-free. They accidentally break a hidden wall, revealing a room sealed with Bhairava Kavach. The Rajpurohit researches further and uncovers a shocking truth—Manjulika had a twin sister, Anjulika (Madhuri Dixit, in a double role).
Meanwhile, Mandira (Madhuri Dixit, in a double role) arrives as a prospective buyer. The Rajpurohit warns them that on Durgashtami, Manjulika will seek revenge. Ruhaan and Meera experience terrifying supernatural events linked to both Mallika and Mandira, unable to determine who is really possessed.
The Truth Unfolds
On Durgashtami, Ruhaan outsmarts the spirit, revealing that the real ghost is actually Prince Debendranath. The twin sisters, Manjulika and Anjulika, conspired to kill him to secure the throne. When the king discovered this, he ordered Debendranath’s execution, claiming his feminine hobbies and transgender identity had brought disgrace.
After being burned alive, Debendranath’s ghost killed the king in revenge. The Rajpurohit of that era sealed Debendranath’s spirit in the hidden room, making people believe Manjulika was the true evil. For 200 years, Debendranath’s spirit has been possessing Mallika and Mandira, tricking everyone into killing them.
Realizing their past sins, Mandira and Mallika apologize, granting Debendranath peace. He finally attains Moksha, freeing the palace from his curse.
Mid-Credit Scene:
Mandira reveals herself as ACP Rathore IPS, an undercover cop sent to arrest Ruhaan for fraud. Shocked, Ruhaan faints, while everyone laughs.
