Bhairav Singh Ghorpade also referred to as Bhairoji, Bhimaji, Bhosaji or Bhosla is the first ruler or the founder of Mudhol State.[1][2] He was a commadar of Bahmani ruler Taj ud-Din Firuz Shah who impressed by his service made him the ruler of Mudhol State.[3][4] He was succeeded by his son Devraj Ghorpade.[4]

Foundation of Mudhol State

[edit]

In the year 1398 A.D., the history of the Mudholkar Ghorpade family reached an important turning point.[3] This family had remained loyal to the Bahmani rulers since 1347 A.D.[1] The Sultan, Feroz Shah, acknowledging the contributions of Bhairav Singh and his ancestors, bestowed upon them a jagir consisting of 84 villages, including Mudhol. [2]Henceforth, for the first time, Mudhol came to be jagir at the hands of this family, and remained so until 1948 A.D.[4]

Military Career

[edit]

The Rana and his two sons quelled the rebellion of the chiefs of Raibag. In the course of the battle, the elder son, Karansinha, was slain in battle in 1405/06.[3][4] Two years later, in 1407/08, the Rana died while in the service of his overlord. His reign of Mudhol lasted ten years.[4]
