Early life and education
[edit]Kelly was raised in Fairfax, Virginia, to a politically outspoken family—her father worked as a mortgage loan officer and her mother as a small business owner. 3 She earned a B.A. in Political Science from Auburn University in 2017 (including membership in Delta Zeta sorority and a minor in community and civic engagement), and later received a Master’s in Political Management from George Washington University. 4
Early career
[edit]Prior to joining the White House, Kelly held communications roles in the GOP. She was Wisconsin Communications Director for the Republican National Committee (Nov 2019–Nov 2020), Communications Director for the Republican Party of Wisconsin, Communications Director for the U.S. House of Representatives (serving Rep. Derrick Van Orden), and National Press Secretary for the RNC. 5
Pageantry and public advocacy
[edit]Kelly competed in beauty pageants during her academic years. In 2019, she won Miss State Fair of Virginia on the platform “End the Apathy Epidemic: Promoting Youth Political Engagement.” 6 In 2022, she took the title of Miss Madison in Wisconsin. 7
She also showcased her singing talent in pageants, performing Jennifer Holliday’s “I Am Changing” (2016) and Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like) a Natural Woman” (2018). 8
White House deputy press secretary
[edit]In January 2025, Kelly joined the White House as Deputy Press Secretary. She has emphasized her role in combating “fake news” narratives, “winning every single day,” and supporting youth engagement in politics. 9
Personal life
[edit]Kelly is an enthusiast of dogs, often describing herself as an “aspiring dog influencer.” She has fostered and adopted dogs, including one named “Remi.” 10 She is also active on social media (Instagram and X), promoting civic engagement and her work at the White House. 11
