[edit]Development
[edit]On 18 October 2024, it was reported that Luca Guadagnino was in final negotiations to direct a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis's 1991 novel American Psycho, with Scott Z. Burns writing the screenplay.[1][2]
Casting
[edit]In December 2024, Austin Butler was announced to be portraying Patrick Bateman.[3]
Authenticity
[edit]On 31 December 2024, Bret Easton Ellis stated in his podcast that he believed that the film was not being made, with the personnel supposedly involved in the production not having a deal for the film, saying: "I have a feeling it’s fake news. I heard somewhere, from someone, that there are no contracts. Austin Butler hasn’t signed anything to play Patrick Bateman. Luca doesn’t have a deal. Scott Burns, who is supposed to write the screenplay, doesn’t have a deal either. From various sources that I have, this is just fake news that was put out there to see how an audience is going to react."[4][5]
