Production
[edit]Development
[edit]Based on the myth of the Miringua, a purépecha legend belonging to the folklore of the Mexican state of Michoacán, the film was developed by Mexican filmmaker Edgar Nito, who became known with his debut feature Huachicolero (2019), which received good reviews from specialized critics. Nito co-wrote the script with Alfredo Mendoza, with whom he had previously collaborated.[5][2]
The project is produced by Pablo Cruz of El Estudio, Edgar Nito of Pirotecnia Films, Enrique Lavigne of 4 Ways Entertainment of Los Angeles and associate produced by Pablo Guisa of Grupo Mórbido, Vicente Canales of Film Factory Entertainment and Alejandro Sugich of Sula Films.[6]
The film was conceived together under the concept of "La casa latina del terror" (The Latin House of Horror), an ambitious model that plans to produce quality Latin American horror films for the world, with Nito's film being one of six films that will start with this concept.[7][8][9]
Cast
[edit]The film featured a solid cast headed by Noé Hernández, Hoze Meléndez, Mercedes Hernández, Andrés Delgado, Jorge A. Jiménez and Renata Vaca.[10]
Filming
[edit]Nito and Alfredo Mendoza toured the islands of Yunuén, La Pacanda, Tecuena and Janitzio and interviewed local people about the myth of La Miringua as part of their documentation to write the script for the film. The film was shot in Pátzcuaro (Michoacán) as well as in Guanajuato and Quintana Roo, Mexico.[11][2]
Premiere
[edit]The film had its world premiere at the Sitges Film Festival, Spain on October 3, 2024.[12] The film was also screened at the Feratum Film Festival, the Morelia International Film Festival and the Morbido Film Festival. [13][14][2]
