The 2nd Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (Ashby's) was a Confederate cavalry unit led by Colonel Henry Marshall Ashby.
Unit history
[edit]In May of 1862 the unit was formed by consolidating the 4th and 5th Tennessee Cavalry Battalions and comprised of men from Hamilton, Monroe, Knox, Union, Claiborne, Hawkins, Jefferson, Bledsoe, Bradley, Polk, Hancock, Blount, and Sullivan county.
The regiment participated in the Battle of the Cumberland Gap, Battle of Murfreesboro, Wheeler's Raid, Battle of Chickamauga, Battle of Savannah, and participated in the defense of the Carolinas.[1][2]
