Beginning in January 2025, the second Trump administration has fired high-level United States Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) officials.

Purges

Department of Justice

On January 27, 2025, the United States Department of Justice fired over a dozen officials who were involved in the Smith special counsel investigation effective immediately. Acting attorney general James McHenry stated that he did not "trust these officials to assist in faithfully implementing the President's agenda". Corey Amundson, the head of the department's Public Integrity Section, was among those dismissed.^[1]

On January 31, Ed Martin, the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, fired approximately thirty federal prosecutors involved in an investigation into the participants of the January 6 Capitol attack.^[2]

Federal Bureau of Investigation

On January 31, the Department of Justice informed approximately six high-level officials at the FBI that they will be fired.^[3]
