Daniel Mark Tomlinson (born July 1992) is a British Labour Party politician who has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Chipping Barnet in north London since 2024.[3] He defeated the Conservative Party incumbent Theresa Villiers.[4]

Early life and education

[edit]

Tomlinson was educated at Wood Green School, a state comprehensive school in the market town of Witney, in Oxfordshire, followed by the University of Oxford, where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics.[5] Tomlinson worked for HM Treasury and for the Resolution Foundation between 2015 and 2022, and became a senior economist for the foundation.[6] He also worked at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.[7]

Political career

[edit]

Tomlinson was a councillor in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets from 2018 until 2022.[8] He did not stand for reelection in 2022 and Labour subsequently lost control of the council to Aspire.[9]

Inside Housing listed Tomlinson as one of eight newly elected MPs who would be advocates for the cause of social housing in the new Labour government.[7]
