Cooper Murley

Cooper Murley (born 18 July 2003) is an Australian rules footballer who currently plays for the Norwood Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He was previously listed with the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), after being selected in the 2021 AFL Draft.

Early life and junior career

Murley grew up in South Australia and played junior football with Norwood. He was recognised as one of the top young midfielders in the country, earning under-16 All-Australian honours and finishing runner-up in the McCallum–Tomkins Medal, awarded to the best and fairest player in the SANFL under-18 competition.[1]

AFL career (2022–2023)

Murley was drafted by Collingwood Football Club with pick 49 in the 2021 AFL draft.[2] On draft night, he made headlines after missing the phone call from the club because he was away from his phone at the time.[1]

Murley did not make a senior AFL appearance during his time at Collingwood, but played regularly in the VFL. In the 2022 and 2023 VFL seasons, he played 38 games and kicked 24 goals.[3]

Murley grew up in South Australia and played junior football with Tea Tree Gully before joining Norwood’s underage program. He became a standout performer in the SANFL under-18 competition, finishing runner-up in the 2020 McCallum–Tomkins Medal and helping Norwood win the under-18 premiership.[4]
