Christopher Houghton is an American animator, writer, director, and voice actor. He is the co-creator of the Disney Channel animated series Big City Greens, on which he voices the character Cricket Green.
Early life
[edit]Houghton was born in St. Johns, Michigan.[1] His parents are Noel and Rick Houghton.[2][3] He attended the College for Creative Studies in Detroit.[4]
Career
[edit]Houghton began his career as a storyboard artist on the Nickelodeon series Fanboy & Chum Chum[5] and worked as an artist for Bongo Comics, MAD magazine, and the Adventure Time comic book series,[6] often working alongside his brother Shane, a writer.[5][7]
Houghton served as a storyboard artist on Disney XD's Gravity Falls and Wander Over Yonder.[8][9] From 2015 to 2017, he served as a storyboard director on Nickelodeon's Harvey Beaks.[10]
In March 2016, Disney XD announced that it had picked up the animated series by the Houghton brothers, originally titled Country Club and later renamed Big City Greens.[11][12] Houghton voices the main character, Cricket Green. After initially only providing the voice for early production, his performance impressed Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger during an advanced screening.[13]
In February 2024, the Houghton brothers signed a multiyear overall production deal with Disney Branded Television.[14]
Personal life
[edit]Houghton is married to animator and artist Kassandra Heller.[15]
In 2009, Houghton was the recipient of the Jay Kennedy Memorial Scholarship from the National Cartoonists Society.[16]
