Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport - T1 (also called as CSMI Airport - T1) is an important underground metro station on the north–south corridor of the Aqua Line 3 of Mumbai Metro in Mumbai, India. This metro station was inaugurated on 5 October 2024, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, followed by the commencement of the metro service from 7 October 2024.[2][3][4][5]
Connectivity
[edit]The metro station serves the domestic terminal (T1) of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. It is part of the Aqua Line 3 which became operational, connecting both the international (CSMIA-T2) and domestic (CSMIA-T1) airport terminals to the city's metro network.
While the metro line provides connectivity, air travellers still face challenges with last-mile access. Although access from the domestic airport terminal's metro exit is considered slightly smoother than from the international terminal, achieving seamless last-mile connectivity remains an ongoing effort. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has acknowledged these issues, with current arrangements being temporary. There is a proposal for a direct underground connection from the metro stations to the airport, with work currently underway. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has implemented directional signage, free baggage trolleys, and a covered pedestrian pathway to facilitate the commute, though travelers have found these measures to be insufficient.[6]

Future Developments
[edit]Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport's Terminal 1 (T1), which the metro station serves, is slated for a major redevelopment. The existing terminal is expected to undergo demolition starting in November 2025, with a new terminal to be constructed in its place. The revamped Terminal 1 is designed to become a Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH), aiming to seamlessly connect air, rail, and road networks. This future hub will feature direct metro access and underground bus stations, enhancing the station's connectivity to the airport's redesigned domestic terminal.[8]
