Chantal Michel (born 1968) is a contemporary Switzerland-born sculptor who currently lives in Thun, Switzerland.[1] She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions in Europe. Her work has also been housed in several museums, and she has also been recognized among the top 100,000 artists worldwide[2] and among the top 1,000 in Switzerland.[3]
Her artwork often depicts locations, such as an abandoned brewery or a hotel. She adapts her appearance through costumes, gestures, and expressions that merge with her surrounding atmosphere. [1]
In addition, her visual narratives introduce moments of the extraordinary within a reality governed by cause and effect. They reveal the presence of an alternative dimension, one that appears to resist explanation.[1]
Career
In 1998, her first exhibition, “In the summertime,” was featured on display at Galerie Haus Schneider, Uschi Kolb. For the last two decades, she has had more than 30 solo shows and more than 110 group shows. Of note, in 2001, she had a show at the 49th International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale in Venice.[3]
Biographical Information
From 1989 to 1993, Chantal studied ceramics at the Schule für Gestaltung in Bern, Switzerland. Then, between 1994 and 1998, she went on to study at the Kunstakademie Karlsruhe. In 2002, she studied at the Performance-örderpreis, Alexander-Clavel-Stiftung.[1]
