Bucze [ˈbut͡ʂɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Lubrza, within Świebodzin County, Lubusz Voivodeship, in western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 6 km (4 mi) west of Lubrza, 13 km (8 mi) west of Świebodzin, 40 km (25 mi) north of Zielona Góra, and 50 km (31 mi) south of Gorzów Wielkopolski.
History
[edit]During World War II, Nazi Germany operated a forced labour camp for Jewish men in the village.[2] During the final stages of the war, on 18 March 1945, German anti-aircraft artillery shot down an American bomber, killing four men, Richard C. Berryman, Norman B. Dahlin, Leslie C. Chavet, Michael J. Jr. Riley.[3] There is a memorial at the site.
