Biswatma Nayak (born 20 March 1992) is an Indian entrepreneur and the co-founder of Chingari, a short-video sharing app, and Gari Network, its blockchain ecosystem. Born in Adaspur, Cuttack district, Odisha, he serves as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Chingari.[1][2]

Early life and education

Nayak was born on 20 March 1992 in Adaspur, Cuttack district, Odisha, to Binod Nayak.[1][3] He studied at Prachi Academy in Adaspur and Royal College of Science and Technology, Bhubaneswar.[4] He earned a B.Tech. from Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar.[5][6]

Career

Nayak started at Globussoft in Bengaluru in 2013 as an Android developer until 2020.[4][5] He built apps with over 1 million users.[6][7] In November 2018, he co-founded Chingari with Sumit Ghosh and others.[1][2][8] After the 2020 TikTok ban, Chingari hit 2.5 million downloads in a day.[3][9] As CTO, he launched Gari Network in October 2021 with the Gari token.[10][11][12] By 2022, Chingari had over 170 million downloads.[10][11]

Achievements

  • Chingari won the Atmanirbhar Bharat App Innovation Challenge (2020), earning ₹20 lakh.[13]
  • Narendra Modi praised Chingari in Mann Ki Baat (2020).[6][9]
  • Secured $19 million from Anand Mahindra and others in 2021.[1][3][12]

Personal life

Nayak has lived in Bengaluru since 2013, admires Elon Musk, and supports "Vocal for Local".[6][7]
