Sayyida Basma bint Fakri Al Said (Arabic: بسمة بنت فخري آل سعيد) is an Omani royal and mental health advocate.
Early life and education
[edit]Basma was born in the United Kingdom to Sayyid Fakhri bin Mohammed Al Said and Ibtisam Hasan Abdallah.[1] Her father works for the Foreign Ministry of Oman. He was the ambassador to Brunei from 2008 to 2013 and the ambassador to Malaysia from 2013 to 2016.[2][3]
She earner a bachelor's degree from the University of Jordan in 2001 and a master's degree in health counseling from Curtin University in 2008.[4]
Career
[edit]Basma is a psychologist and clinical hypnotherapist.[5] In 2012, she founded the Whispers of Serenity clinic in Muscat. It is the first specialized mental health clinic in Oman.[6] She previously worked at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital from 2001 to 2012.[7][8]
In 2014, Basma started the 'We Are With You/You Are Not Alone' initiative which offers education and resources as well as encourage discussion of mental health.[9][10] It collaborates with the Ministry of Health to hold an annual forum dedicated to mental health.[11]
In 2023, she was the first Arab judge for the Diana Award.[12]
Personal life
[edit]She is married to Sayyid Adham bin Turki Al Said and they have four children.[13]
