Australian Capital Territory budget

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Australian Capital Territory budget is an annual Act of the Legislative Assembly of the Australian Capital Territory, giving statutory authority to the Government of the Australian Capital Territory for its revenue and expenditure plans. For the financial year 2024/25 the budget was approximately $128,353,200,000.[1] The Appropriation Bill is presented to Parliament by the Treasurer. The current Treasurer is Chris Steel who was appointed to the role in November 2020.[2][3]

Purpose

[edit]

The NSW Government is ultimately accountable to the members of the Legislative Assembly of the Australian Capital Territory and to the New South Wales public for its use of public money and how its spending is allocated.[4] The Government of the Australian Capital Territory allocates funding for areas which include schools, hospitals, policing, the economy, climate change and the environment, amongst others, from the ACT budget.[5] The ACT budget is primarily funded via taxes and block grants by the Australian Government, such as the Goods and Services Tax "carve-up".[6][7]
