Aiguebelle is a Moroccan chocolate and confectionery company, known for producing a range of chocolate products for domestic and international markets.

Originally founded in France in 1868 by Trappist monks, the brand was introduced to Morocco in 1929 and later became part of the Omnipar group.[1]

History

[edit]

Aiguebelle's roots trace back to the Trappist Abbey of Aiguebelle in southeastern France, where monks began producing chocolate as a means of self-sustenance.[2] In 1929, the brand was brought to Morocco by French colonists, where it quickly gained popularity.[3]

After Morocco's independence, the company continued to thrive and was eventually acquired by the Moroccan conglomerate Omnipar. It modernized its operations and expanded product lines, maintaining its identity as a heritage chocolate brand while innovating in production and packaging.[4]

Operations

[edit]

Headquartered in Casablanca, Aiguebelle operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that produces chocolate bars, cocoa powder, baking chocolate, pralines, and spreads. The company caters to both retail and industrial clients, supplying chocolate ingredients to bakeries and pastry producers across the region.[5]

Branding and marketing

[edit]

The brand is widely recognized in Morocco and is often associated with childhood nostalgia and national identity. Its advertising campaigns have featured slogans emphasizing authenticity and heritage, and the company participates in trade shows and culinary events throughout the MENA region.

Recent developments

[edit]

In 2023, Aiguebelle partnered with Moroccan culinary schools to support local talent in pastry and chocolate-making disciplines, promoting innovation and skills development in the food sector.[6]
