Adruitha Lee is an American hairstylist and make-up artist. She is best known for her work on notable films such as Dallas Buyers Club (2013) and I, Tonya (2017). She has received significant critical acclaim and industry recognition, including an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and a BAFTA nomination.[1]
Career
[edit]Lee has worked extensively in the American film industry as a key hairstylist and department head for hair and makeup.[2] Her work often focuses on period styling and transforming actors to authentically represent real-life figures.
In 2014, Lee and Robin Mathews won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for their work in Dallas Buyers Club, which required significant physical transformations of lead actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.[3] The film’s makeup and hairstyling were widely praised for helping convey the physical decline and realistic depiction of AIDS patients during the 1980s.[4]
In 2018, Lee and Deborah La Mia Denaver were nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Makeup and Hair for their work on I, Tonya, which depicted the life of figure skater Tonya Harding.[5] They also received nominations for their work at several other industry awards, including the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards.[6]
Lee continues to contribute to high-profile projects in the film industry, known for her versatility in period hairstyling and realistic character transformations.[7]
