Yeola (Marathi pronunciation: [jeːʋlaː]) (ⓘ) is a town, a municipal council, and a taluka headquarters in Nashik District in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Yeola is a city located in the Nashik district of Maharashtra, India. It is known for its rich history, cultural significance, and thriving textile industry, particularly for the famous Yeola Paithani sarees.
Etymology
[edit]The name "Yeola" is believed to have been derived from ancient Marathi and Sanskrit words, possibly referring to its historical significance as a settlement during the medieval period.

[edit]As of 2011 Official India census,[1] Yeola had a population of 49,826 where Males contribution is 25,582 which is 51.3% of the population and females contribute 24244 which is 48.7%. In Yeola, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age. The Population density of Yeola is 3,896/km² and the annual population change rate is 1.4%.

[edit]Yeola is located in the northern part of Maharashtra, approximately 80 km from Nashik, 260 km from Mumbai, and 200 km from Pune. The city is situated near important trade routes and serves as a link between western Maharashtra and central India.

- Yadava Dynasty (12th-14th century): Yeola was an important part of the Seuna (Yadava) Kingdom, which ruled over present-day Maharashtra.
- Mughal Era (16th-18th century): The region came under Mughal influence, and the art of weaving was encouraged during this time.
- Maratha Empire (17th-19th century): Yeola was a prominent city during Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s reign and later under the Peshwas. The Paithani saree weaving industry flourished during this period.
- British Colonial Rule: Under the British Raj, Yeola remained a trade center for textiles and handlooms.
