Year-by-year Section Headers
[edit]I've always thought it such a bad format to have year-by-year section headers, especially for players who were in the NFL for a long period of time. Take a look at the TOC for Aaron Rodgers versus Brett Favre. Is the solution to just hide a certain level of section headers using {{TOClimit}} (so still using year-by-year section headers but just hiding them in the TOC), or reorganize articles so that section headers summarize periods of a career? Should we try to establish some standard for all NFL bios? « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 16:08, 3 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've always disliked the use of that format, especially if they only consist of a few sentences. Outside of historic/record-setting years that led to a Super Bowl (even though he didn't win it, think 2013 Peyton Manning), most seasons in a player's career can be summarized into eras/periods. TOClimit, while useful in some cases, is a just a temporary fix for decluttering the table of contents and remains broken on the Vector 2022 skin too. — Dissident93 (talk) 21:46, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- For less accomplished players, MOS:OVERSECTION applies for short, choppy sections. For someone like Rodgers, it's more a case of WP:NOTDIARY with too much individual game details. —Bagumba (talk) 09:22, 5 July 2025 (UTC)
- I agree. The format is cumbersome and I would suggest breaking the article into eras/periods, like Dissident93 recommended. Useight (talk) 16:23, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
Recent edits by Wrongnumba0511
[edit]Wrongnumba0511 (talk · contribs) has recently linked foreign countries (should not be per MOS:GEOLINK) and re-added locations/subdivisions for high schools that should be omitted if they are the same as a player's birthplace (Template:Infobox NFL biography#Parameters and instructions). I'm posting about this for more awareness as they have continued to do so and have made no effort to respond. — Dissident93 (talk) 21:30, 4 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've been unsuccessful in getting a response from this editor about adding birthplaces to biographies without a source. Notably, they have now added two different birthplaces to Greedy Vance Jr. at different times, [1] [2], without sources. OceanGunfish (talk) 16:10, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- @OceanGunfish: Communication is required, especially when edits are challenged. And verifiability is a core content policy, again, especially when edits are challenged. If this non-communicative pattern continues, a short-term partial block from article-space may be needed to more strongly compel them to engage with community concerns. At the same time, we should try to preserve content that is plausible, perhaps with some good-faith searching if time permits. Vance's ESPN college bio lists Kenner as his birthplace (which is what the user added in the first of those two diffs). FWIW, it's not uncommon for newer editors to confuse something like "hometown" or "origin" in sources for the birthplace on athlete bios. Left guide (talk) 18:07, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe a temporary block would work, revert them all. This deaf, dumb, blind crap doesn't work. He does what he wants to do!! Or ...... we can have a state abbreviation added to every page. I'll revert everything, not a problem. Bringingthewood (talk) 03:38, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
I'll AGF that they're new and perhaps aren't aware of their talk page. I left them a message at User_talk:Wrongnumba0511#Talk_page, asking them to at least acknowledge that they are getting the notifications. If questionable edits continue, drop a line here (or at WP:ANI), explaining that they might not be aware of their talk page, have left they a note asking them for a simple acknowledgement, but disputed edits persist. Request a block until they notice their talk page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bagumba (talk • contribs) 04:25, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- After continued linking of countries today, I have opened a thread at ANI. OceanGunfish (talk) 20:03, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

Head coaching tables (NFL coaches that coached in other leagues)
[edit]I have noticed some differences in how many of them are structured. Some articles such as Steve Spurrier the coaching record boxes for each league they coached separated, whereas the boxes in articles such as Bud Grant and Hamp Pool them conjoined. Should they be conjoined or separated by league?-UCO2009bluejay (talk) 14:59, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- Personally I think it makes more sense to separate them by league. Looking at the tables combined, and considering their totals being added together, it doesn't provide the information in a concise and easy to digest way. It also, somewhat, implies a false equivalency between some types of leagues. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:23, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- I also agree that they should be separated by league. Assadzadeh (talk) 15:42, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
Request for feedback on Draft:Jennifer Chang
[edit]Hello! I recently created a draft article about Jennifer Chang, a Cuban-American journalist, Emmy-winning weather anchor, and former NFL cheerleader. The draft covers her journalism and meteorology work, awards, and background. It has been flagged as relevant to WikiProject National Football League. I’d appreciate any feedback or support from editors in this project. The draft is here: Draft:Jennifer Chang
Thank you! Lightmediaeditor (talk) 04:15, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I made improvements to the article and added some guidance on it's talk page. If you have any questions, then please continue the discussion there. Assadzadeh (talk) 05:16, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
Roster status of players cut before season opener
[edit]Hello all! I'm looking for some clarity regarding the logic of how we denote a player's career history. It was my understanding that if a player was on a team's roster for, let's say the 2024 season (regardless of practice squad or 53-man), if they are cut before the 2025 season opener, then we would not write (2024-2025) in the career history box and just (2024). I'm asking this as I've come across some edits where others disagree (Ben DiNucci, Dax Milne for example) and would just like to make sure that the way I have been editing pages is in line with the consensus. I really don't have an opinion either way and see the argument for both styles, really just looking to maintain a uniform style across all articles. Thanks! Ethan Webster (talk) 12:17, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- That's the way I've done it for years. The main exception would be for players who signed in the same offseason and were released/traded prior to making the Week 1 roster (active, reserve, or PS). — Dissident93 (talk) 20:47, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- This was my understanding. I have come across WikiSports2016 who has made dozens (if not hundreds) of edits to the contrary, adding offseason years to players. Looking at edit histories, it seems many other editors tend to revert these changes, but I was unsure if there was an established consensus on this or not. I have looked through the template guides and previous talk pages and couldn't find anything definitive. Would appreciate some guidance as to how to proceed Thanks again all. Unsourced BLP NFL players
[edit]There are currently 49 unsourced BLPs about NFL players. Help in sourcing them would be appreciated. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:12, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- If a link to the player's stats at Pro Football Reference already exists, can the same link be used as a source, or would you prefer a different source? Assadzadeh (talk) 17:14, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- That is fine, though it'd be nice to add some sources with significant coverage as well. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:16, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, it can be used to cite statistics, but WP:SECONDARY sources are needed to establish notability for a standalone article. Left guide (talk) 23:11, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
