Heritage component of Current clubs within the Victorian NPL article
[edit]Recently, some discussion and reverts with @Nzs9: about whether an additional column in a Table about Current clubs for the National Premier Leagues Victoria is needed to collate the clubs' ethnic heritage. Likely little traffic at the article's Talk Page so bringing the discussion here to a somewhat wider audience.
- My view is to remove, on the basis of being a very minor statistic, bordering on WP:FANCRUFT, and such information, if relevant, can often be gleaned from the history section of each club's Wikepedia page. The former ethnicity or heritage is not relevant information to which clubs are competing, and as an example, such bespoke information is not considered needed on the equivalent articles for the other NPL member federation articles (NSW, NNSW, Qld, SA, Tas or WA). There is a new article for the next lower divisions - Victorian Premier League - with a dozen edits, and the format of this article essentially copy/pastes the same formats.Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:54, 11 March 2025 (UTC)
- Remove - Only see this opening yet another can of worms. - J man708 (talk) 07:42, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- Keep - been there for a while and is valuable to the article, would be minor in other leagues though. Nzs9 (talk) 07:14, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- Remove – whilst I understand the sentiment, it is completely irrelevant to this season. Certainly appropriate for the club's article. Eccy89 (talk) 15:27, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
Someone explain what this article is? If anything this is not notable and very confused on this as there is clearly no "Australian State League" competition. FastCube (talk) 09:28, 26 March 2025 (UTC)
- Title aside, it could work with effective inclusion criteria like actually having an article. Hack (talk) 02:44, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- Of what? Still don't know what this article represents besides the foreign players part. FastCube (talk) 04:43, 27 March 2025 (UTC)
- I'm also confused. But I think FastCube that is all about the foreign players part. In saying that, is this a list for all of time in the TOP tier of state leagues or is it suppose to represent ALL levels? I assume it's for all of time – in which case it's seriously lacking in players. There is no mention in the list which "state league" the players even participated in. It's hardly well referenced either – hundreds of player names plucked from who knows where, with most not notable enough to have their own article. I think anyone wanting to know about international players in the corresponding league could (or should be able to) find that in the relevant season article(s) when they participated. If it's not commented on in the actual years they played in, why would we need a separate collated article for it? Eccy89 (talk) 15:27, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Minimum this article would need to go into draft space, but I would be happy to have it deleted as failing WP:GNG. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:04, 6 April 2025 (UTC)

UEFA Friendship Cup
[edit]On which youth page (and which section of 2024–25 in Australian soccer) should the games of the UEFA Friendship Cup go? --SuperJew (talk) 21:51, 26 May 2025 (UTC)
- There's U20 wording all the way through the article. Likely the tournament will also feature actual U18 sides with U18 Wikipedia articles to link to, but that's OK. Even clearer to me with the younger players (Joeys fresh outta the pouch) playing in China at the same time. I think I would very likely oppose the creation of a new article for an U18 side. Just for short term the two squads could be listed at the U20 article under Current squad, with some prose mentioning this as a younger cohort. And a single table for Recent call-ups. This is a transition period, and will get fully resolved in October with the playing of the U20-World Cup, after which the bulk of the older cohort will no longer be considered "eligible for selection" for the 2027 edition. - Ok done. If you want to double check me that'd be great :)
- Memeti and Wong both flying over to Europe with big hangovers today! Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:38, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Haha very true. I'm also confused though where Jai Ajanovic is - Switzerland or Argentina --SuperJew (talk) 23:44, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Can we also bring up how they called-up James Overy, The Guardian's "one of the best players born in 2007 worldwide" who is on Manchester United's books and has already represented Scotland youth and there's hardly a word about it? --SuperJew (talk) 23:01, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Added info to James Overy's article. Marcus Neill is perhaps as notable as Christiano Ronaldo Junior at the moment ! Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:23, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
- Also they called-up Marcus, the son of Lucas Neill, who is currently playing at Sunderland. --SuperJew (talk) 23:03, 31 May 2025 (UTC)
