The DCWC is back!

WikiProject Serbia, the Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning (talk · contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal (talk · contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

19th century source reading

In the article Antonije Orešković, we have a citation to a Serbian Cyrillic article from 1862 that doesn't quite look like modern-day Serbian Cyrillic to me, at [1]. Could someone read what it says and confirm that it actually matches the caption:

List „Srbski dnevnik“ je hvalio »Srbina katoličke vere« Oreškovića, koji je »za kratko vreme svog bavljenja u Srbiji obšte uvažavanje i poštovanje stekao«

Thanks for the info. Do we need a proper translator for this? Ultimately, the issue here is that this is an odd claim that can't be easily confirmed elsewhere in reliable sources, so I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort, or should we just dismiss it as a non-secondary source that doesn't match the standard of WP:EXTRAORDINARY anyway. --Joy (talk) 11:53, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"што е Србинъ католичке вере" translates to "a Serb of Catholic religion". "Онъ е за кратко време свога бавлѣня у Србии, обште уважениѣ и потованѣ стекао" translated to "He has in a short period during his work in Serbian, obtained appreciation and respect". Both are located in the second paragraph under "Новости изъ Београда / News from Belgrade". I don't think it's worth the inclusion in the article unless this can be covered in other reliable sources. Note: it's pretty easy to read the language for anyone with knowledge of the Cyrillic script since it combines Serbian and Russian scripts into one, while the language itself is like modern Serbian. Vacant0 (talk • contribs) 12:03, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
