Question from HazzaMa (06:01, 16 March 2025)

[edit]

Hey Yoshi, My name is Matt, or Hazzama, either or! I am a long time user of Wiki but never made an account or became part of the commmunity! Now I have the urge to join in on the freedom train of INFORMATION! Just curious if you could tell me a good place to start, I know I can edit anything(almost) but is there anything else I should do/ look out for? Maybe other ways to contribute? --HazzaMa (talk) 06:01, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HazzaMa, and welcome to Wikipedia! For me to understand how to help you better, I need to know what you plan on wanting to do on Wikipedia. Editing articles, creating articles, reverting vandalism, etc.? What are your interests? Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Very Busy) 19:15, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well I want to edit and create articles, I would like to help make things easier to understand while also making sure the correct terminology is being used. I am fascinated by science and technology, I am a huge nerd with lots of interesting things to talk about(or at least I find them interesting) and would love putting those interests into full blown articles that can be used by anyone at anytime to learn something new. HazzaMa (talk) 06:10, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
HazzaMa, I would suggest you look at some featured articles to help understand the type of writing best goes into an encyclopedia, and then read this article which talks about getting started on your first article, and what is required for it. [edit]

Hello & Thanks, how to add citations ? --Mohanmaldhure (talk) 08:43, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Citations can be tricky. This article should be able to help you with what you need. Remember though, citations need to be from reliable sources. Hope this helps! Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Very Busy) 18:35, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Darn it, forgot to ping. Mohanmaldhure, see above message. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Very Busy) 18:36, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Testsubject43749 (22:59, 20 March 2025)

[edit]

when vandalism is made, how often is it a bot that reverts it? --Testsubject43749 (talk) 22:59, 20 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Testsubject43749, that is a good question. Normally our anti-vandalism bot User:ClueBot NG will revert vandalism when a specific threshold is hit. It is kind of hard to explain, but it used a database set, and a neural network to classify vandalism. Basically, it has been trained on hundreds, probably thousands of different samples, and each sample has been classified as vandalism, and not vandalism. It rates each edit on a scale of 0 to 1, with 1 being guaranteed vandalism, and if it is above a certain threshold, it will revert it. Sometimes false positives do occur. But if an edit is made, and the bot checks it and it is vandalism, the bot usually reverts it within a minute, potentially even less than that. Sometimes the bot incorrectly classifies vandalism as nothing, in that case, the bot won't do anything, which in that case, a human will revert it. The bot also won't revert if it has already reverted on that page once already that day. See its user page for more information. Hope that helps.
