IP Block exception

[edit]

Dear ST47 I am an administrator on the Persian Wikipedia. Due to the severe internet filtering policies enforced by the Islamic Republic , I must rely on VPN services to access and contribute to Wikimedia projects. Since I have recently begun contributing to the English Wikipedia, I have faced considerable obstacles due to repeated IP blocks. I would greatly appreciate it if you could consider granting me an IP block exemption to facilitate uninterrupted editing. Thank you for your attention and support. Warm regards,Best Regards Shahnamk (talk) 10:09, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ST47! It's been much too long since the last time we interacted! As always, it's great to see you and talk to you! I had a quick question about your .js script located on User:ST47/cu-log-links.js. I saw that your regex variable "pattern" is coded as /^((\d{1,3}\.){3}\d{1,3}|([\da-f]{0,4}:){1,7}[\da-f]{0,4})(\/\d{1,3})?$/i. The regex looks completely fine and totally works, but I noticed that you had set the CIDR portion of the code to search for either 1, 2, or 3 digits instead of only for 1 or 2 digits (this portion: (\/\d{1,3})?). Unless I'm living completely under a rock or there's something else that I'm not considering, you only need to have it set to (\/\d{1,2})?.

I put together a similar script awhile back (it's located here if you want to see it - I do call it a "fork" of yours since it inspired me to put together one with the links I wanted), and I've tested and used it both with the way you set the "pattern" variable and how I ended up coding it, and I've had no issues at all. I wanted to check in with you and ask if there was a specific reason that you set the "tolerance" (for lack of a better word - no pun intended lol) to 1 and 3 digits. Is there something that I may not be considering or taking into account, or a situation out there that I might be missing?

I see that you've been mostly inactive for about a year now (minus one edit where you replied to a message on your user talk page). I hope you're doing okay and that life is treating you well; it made me a bit when I noticed your inactivity. It would suck if you ended up moving on or stopped contributing here. I'd sure as hell miss you and I really hope that you don't disappear on us... :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:45, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
