A question about userspace drafts

[edit]

I see you have been removing AfC draft notices from numerous userspace drafts, and I wondered why. JBW (talk) 21:36, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JBW: CAT:AFCU/D is a pseudo-category that I have monitored for the past few years (have not checked it in a while, hence the volume today — went through all of the pages in it; approximately 15% of the 100 or so pages in it required remedy). AfC is a voluntary process. Anyone is welcome to submit a page through the system for consideration. When this occurs, the page will generally be moved to the draft space (and no longer be a 'personal' user draft). However, applying an unsubmitted AFC template in userspace of others only serves to make that page eligible for G13. It is tantamount to backdoor deletion in the userspace of another if the page goes unedited. {{Userspace draft}} provides all of the helpful links and benefits to the user in question, without the nasty side effects. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 21:59, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for explaining your reason, though I don't agree with it. JBW (talk) 22:36, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

User categorization

[edit]

Hello, I'm Est. 2021. Although I know you're an experienced contributor to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your edits to User:Est. 2021/Userboxes, User:Churba/Userboxes and User:Pr3st0n/My Babel, among others. While you probably didn't intend any disturb, please do remember that users are free to choose whether they prefer to have userboxes and user categories placed on their main userpage or another subpage of theirs, as that's the whole point of having a subpage entirely dedicated to userboxes and user categories. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could avoid such edits. Thank you. – Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 18:26, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Est. 2021: Super short on time, so my apologies if the tone of this reply sounds unintentionally curt. I added the newly created category, i.e Category:Wikipedian bartenders (which I also created on August 2, 2025) to Template:User bartenderon August 2nd of this year. So, actually, this edit left your choice unchanged (or in the status quo technically)! It also honors the text on the category page, "please include only your user page in this category, not any sub-pages" (which I borrowed from Category:Wikipedian beekeepers). Warmest regards, — Godsy (TALKCONT) 20:52, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Est. 2021: ~(still traveling)~ Hello again . In regard to Category:Redirectionist Wikipedians: solely one (sub-or-not)page per user in each category is likely tolerable (though not ideal — we seemingly disagree philosophically on the nature of the matter, which I would be happy to discuss another time). But LB22 should not be listed in that category 6 times. It seems your userpage got caught in the crosshairs of my remedying that; I am content with your reversion on your user subpage and offer my sympathy. However, I stand by the other ~5 category removal collection of edits as appropriate (per this comment and the above). I too maintain a subpage for userboxes, User:Godsy/Userboxes, intentionally without 'messing up' the categories (my characterization) — though that is an aside. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 02:48, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Godsy, thanks for the comment. I kinda agree with you about each user only being listed one time (or two I guess, as I've seen valid exceptions) per each category, not six times in a row in the same category. I suppose we could simply inform such users (eg. LB22) about that, asking them to not list themselves more than one time (or two) per category, leaving then to choose which (sub-or-not)page. Would you agree? Est. 2021 (talk · contribs) 12:22, 5 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
