The United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) based in Brussels serves as the United Nations (UN)'s communications office across 22 Western European countries.
As the regional arm of the UN Department of Global Communications, UNRIC builds connections between the United Nations and key European stakeholders, including EU institutions, governments, civil society, media, academia, and the private sector.
UNRIC also provides communications support to the 30 United Nations agencies located in Brussels[1] and works together with the European Union institutions on shared communications priorities such as information integrity.
Countries served
[edit]On 1 January 2004, the United Nations Regional Information Centre opened in Brussels, replacing the previous United Nations Information Centres in Athens, Bonn, Brussels, Copenhagen, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Paris and Rome which ceased operations on 31 December 2003.[2] It has since provided services to the following Western European countries: [3]
Info point & library
[edit]The UNRIC Info Point & Library maintains a collection of UN documents and publications in English, French and Spanish, as well as general information material about the work of the United Nations. The library provides reference services via e-mail or telephone and is open to the public.
