Want me to move these to main space? Are they ready? Moxy🍁 04:45, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please. And yes I believe so. Historyguy1138 (talk) 06:20, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We are splitting the (List of Wars Involving the United States).

[edit]

We will change the article again to (List of Wars Involving the United States) and delete the old article after this one is published. This has been mutually agreed upon by the editors of that page. See the talk page in the old article for more details, Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:50, 21 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Slave Rebellions Conclusion or exclusion

[edit]

Hi guys not a huge deal as I think we have all of us come to a mutual agreeable consensus to which we can all be proud of and make these articles amazing for our readers and ourselves.

I noticed that Dasomm limited the examples on the Examples for criteria that are not included. I am fine with all of those if he wants to shorten the examples. However one question on the slave rebellions. Should we include them in the exclusion list. I am relatively sure that someone at some point is going to ask to include them, and some of them did involve u.s. military involvement. But historically the old page did not include them.

Should I add these back to the list? Does anyone have any objections or would someone want to include these in the lists for at least the slave rebellions involving the U.S. military?

(Side question Dasomm, what's the best way to link you to talks more directly? Your page has not been created.) Thanks friend. And thank you for helping to clean these articles up. Bravo Historyguy1138 (talk) 17:14, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I am glad you like my edits. Yeah, I think there was too many examples, so I make it shorter. And yes, I think slave rebellions should be in the exclusion list. For direct communication you can use my User talk:Dasomm page :) Dasomm (talk) 23:34, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
" Yeah, I think there was too many examples, so I make it shorter."
Fair, fair.
"And yes, I think slave rebellions should be in the exclusion list"
Excellent. I just added it back.
Also what do you think about the Colonial Wars idea? Would you be interested in helping me work on something like that? (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 06:41, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I dont have much knowledge about the Colonial Wars, American history is only my hobby, but If you write some new WP article about it, I will do my best to improve it. Dasomm (talk) 13:49, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent I will get started on that. And show it to everyone here for improvement. Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:52, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Well done with the adding the Colonial Wars

[edit]

I love that User talk:Dasomm add Colonial Wars to this list I did not even think of that, but that is extremely useful for the readers. However I noticed that it only included wars involving Native Americans.

I say we leave it, but I am wondering if we can create a separate list that goes over wars involving the former British American Colonies including both the Native America Wars and perhaps some of the following (this list is not exhaustive):

I am wondering

  1. Bacon’s Rebellion (1676) – A rebellion in Virginia against Governor William Berkeley’s administration, led by Nathaniel Bacon.
  2. King William’s War (1688–1697) – The North American theater of the Nine Years' War between England and France.
  3. Coode’s Rebellion (1689) – A Protestant uprising in Maryland against Catholic rule.
  4. Culpeper’s Rebellion (1677–1678) – A rebellion in North Carolina against the colonial government.
  5. Queen Anne’s War (1702–1713) – The North American theater of the War of Spanish Succession, fought between the British and French (with their respective Native allies).
  6. King George’s War (1744–1748) – The North American theater of the War of Austrian Succession, mainly between British and French forces.
  7. French and Indian War (1754–1763) – The North American theater of the Seven Years’ War between Britain and France.

Pre-Revolutionary Conflicts (1763–1775)

[edit]
  1. Regulator Movement (1765–1771) – An uprising in the Carolinas against colonial officials over tax policies and corruption.
  2. Gaspee Affair (1772) – Rhode Island colonists attacked and burned a British customs ship.

Criteria?

[edit]

The article is "just" a small list of four lists. The information about criteria may need to exist somewhere, but should not be in the article itself. Where is the best place to hold the criteria details — this talk page or a project page somewhere? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:45, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, I did some changes. Dasomm (talk) 14:27, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GhostInTheMachine so this is a list of lists article. And to my knowledge there is no limit on size and scope of lists as far as guidelines are concerned. Also according to wiki guidelines there actually should be criteria as to why lists are set up the way they are. This helps both editors to make decisions on whether or not they should add stuff to the list (or in this case lists) and helps the readers no the scope of the article.
Specifically the guideline says "Many lists on Wikipedia have been created without any membership criteria, and editors are left to guess about what or whom should be included only from the name of the list. Even if it might "seem obvious" what qualifies for membership in a list, explicit is better than implicit."

New Colonial War Article to Add

[edit]

Hi everyone.

I am slowly working on a list called List of wars involving the 13 Colonies and the Ohio Country, to modify what User talk:Dasomm added.

Here is just the bare minimum nuts and bolts of it, I am going to gradually add to it overtime. Please chat with me in the talk section of that article if anyone wants to help me build it or has any ideas about it.

Thanks everyone.

Map

[edit]

I create the map of wars based on this list. If some country missing or should be removed, just message me. Dasomm (talk) 15:34, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article is currently waiting approval and will be linked up to the other 4 list articles in the series as soon after it is published. Be advised that being that these are colonial wars they will have a slightly different criteria than the wars involving the United states. This is already noted on the draft article, but will be mentioned in brief on this article as well.

Should we add the Canadian Patriot War and/or the Fenian War?

[edit]

I recently found out that the United States participated in these wars, but for the Patriot War they just captured patriots for the Canadians, and the U.S. Navy Captured Irish? What do you guys think?

Patriot War U.S. Involvement battles:

Battle of the Windmill

Battle of Windsor

Fenian Raids U.S. Involvement batte:

Battle of Fort Erie (1866) Historyguy1138 (talk) 04:08, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Image overkill in lede

[edit]

I'd like to flag an issue with the current lead section, which contains five images. I've tried trimming it down to 2, but my edit was reverted.

Too many images in the lede section can clutter the layout and distract from the actual introduction of the article. I would recommend retaining only the Situation Room photo. What do you think? @Historyguy1138 @Dansomm Elina9k (talk) 13:21, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Problem solved, moved it down. Dasomm (talk) 13:33, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Great communication and compromising on both your parts guys.
May I make one suggestion. For the intro can we add the File:The Battle of Lexington.jpg. This is the Shot heard round the world at the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the beginning of the United States military. I think if we keep a single image in the intro it should be fine, but leave it at that at least for the intro.
What do you guys think? (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, good idea. Dasomm (talk) 14:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, there should be just one image in the lead, and the Situation Room photo is the most appropriate choice. The Lexington and Concord image might be better suited as the template image or the Colonial Wars article instead. Elina9k (talk) 14:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Very good may it be so User talk:Dasomm Elina9k Historyguy1138 (talk) 14:17, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
