Image overkill in lede
[edit]I'd like to flag an issue with the current lead section, which contains five images. I've tried trimming it down to 2, but my edit was reverted.
Too many images in the lede section can clutter the layout and distract from the actual introduction of the article. I would recommend retaining only the Situation Room photo. What do you think? @Historyguy1138 @Dansomm Elina9k (talk) 13:21, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Problem solved, moved it down. Dasomm (talk) 13:33, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Great communication and compromising on both your parts guys.
- May I make one suggestion. For the intro can we add the File:The Battle of Lexington.jpg. This is the Shot heard round the world at the Battle of Lexington and Concord and the beginning of the United States military. I think if we keep a single image in the intro it should be fine, but leave it at that at least for the intro.
- What do you guys think? (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 13:39, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, good idea. Dasomm (talk) 14:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- I agree, there should be just one image in the lead, and the Situation Room photo is the most appropriate choice. The Lexington and Concord image might be better suited as the template image or the Colonial Wars article instead. Elina9k (talk) 14:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- Very good may it be so User talk:Dasomm Elina9k Historyguy1138 (talk) 14:17, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
List or Lists of wars involving the United States?
[edit]Dasomm do we want it list or lists? Historyguy1138 (talk) 15:28, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
- It's up to you. I'm not sure about this, but if you'd like to discuss it, feel free to start a topic on the talk page. The true is, there should be discussion before such a major change. Dasomm (talk)
- This article is itself not a list of wars, but is a list of lists, so
Lists of ...
is technically more correct — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 15:48, 22 June 2025 (UTC) - Dasomm It is meant to be one big list broken up into several. Historyguy1138 (talk) 18:00, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Proposal to request this article and all related articles to become permanetly semi protected
[edit]Some of you may have noticed that this article is temporarily semi protected. I have seen not only a drastic rise in viewership to this articles and affiliates, but also a rise in vandalism or mistakes being made due to newer editors. I propose that after the semi protection is over we formally request that all 7 of these articles be risen to semi protected status. What do you all think?

- List of wars involving the United States in the 21st century already has an Arab-Israeli editnotice, which offers some protection. I am not much concerned about the others, there has been little vandalism and people are watching — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 13:57, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- I second GhostInTheMachine's point of view.
- The list for the 21ˢᵗ century has enough protection to deter vandalism, at least in my opinion, and other lists do not warrant any kind of extraordinary protection. Nevertheless, an argument could be made that the list for the 20ᵗʰ century could require some additional protection measures due to the contemporary nature of the topic. Personally, I would support such a decision.

- Hmmmmmm perhaps? What about the main index lists article? Historyguy1138 (talk) 14:36, 23 June 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe it could be useful, judging by the last incident of vandalism. Although it seems to be that it was an individual phenomenon, rather than a symptom of a wider vandalic tendency.
- I leave this particular decision to the other contributors.

Wars involving the Thirteen Colonies?
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Historyguy1138 has created two new impressive lists:
- List of Colonial American Wars in the 17th century
- List of Colonial American Wars in the 18th century
I was thinking that the words "Colonial American" in the title could use some clarification. What would you think of List of 17th-century wars involving the Thirteen Colonies? After all, this list is placed in the Category:Military history of the Thirteen Colonies. Similarly, how about List of 18th-century wars involving the Thirteen Colonies instead of List of Colonial American Wars in the 18th century? I decided to move the "century" bit forward for WP:CONCISE, but placing the "century" part at the end for WP:TITLECON is also fine with me. (Reposted at Historyguy1138's request). - That's a good idea, but I don't think it's wise to rename the page too often. This would be the third change in four months. Dasomm (talk) 20:36, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
- Perhaps gentlemen we should @Nederlandse Leeuw@McChonki put a moratorium on such a change for a number of months as a compromise? If so how long should we wait to do that?
- Also Should we perhaps call it the List of 17th-century wars involving the Thirteen Colonies and the Ohio Country and Illinois Countries? Or should we leave it as List of 17th-century wars involving the Thirteen Colonies? (: Historyguy1138 (talk) 00:04, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also if we do change it down the line we must not forget to change this disambiguation page: List of colonial American wars Historyguy1138 (talk) 00:18, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Let's stick with Thirteen Colonies and not some extra stuff. We are looking for a concise and consistent article title that fits the relevant categories and related lists. We should be picking a title that is likely to stand the test of time, and not be changed again soon. It's not uncommon for a new article to be renamed a few times, but some stability is desirable eventually. NLeeuw (talk) 02:44, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- Great when do we want to do this now or space it out sometime later? (: @Dasomm@McChonki Historyguy1138 (talk) 03:09, 23 July 2025 (UTC)
- I second NLeeuw's opinion of sticking to the “Thirteen Colonies” instead of overcomplicating the title, and believe that the naming proposals will satisfy the provided description of “a concise and consistent article title that fits the relevant categories and related lists […] that is likely to stand the test of time”. Thusly, I think it should be done now, although if anyone considers that an immediate renaming would be excessive considering past changes, as pointed out by Dasomm, then I wouldn't mind at all. - I support the change. Firstly, “Thirteen Colonies” is indeed better than “Colonial American” in terms of clarity. And secondly, putting the century at the beginning would help differentiate it from List of wars involving the United States in the 18th century. McChonki (talk) 20:43, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
