Gross misinformation in the “casualties and losses” section

[edit]

“Per Yedioth Ahronoth: 15,000 soldiers killed and wounded”

First, this is not per Yedioth Ahronoth, this is per former minister Moshe Ya'alon, so already we are off to a bad start with improper sourcing.

Second, the source itself (Middle East Monitor) is not only extremely biased, it’s also just a bad source: Not once in the entire article is it linked where Moshe Ya'alon actually said this. I had to Google it in Hebrew, and indeed he did say it, but that should be included in the source rather than left for the reader to discover by themselves.

Third, the original source itself (Moshe Ya'alon) is unreliable and highly unfit to be included in the “casualties and losses” section. Moshe Ya'alon is a FORMER Chief of the General Staff - he has not been anywhere near the Israeli government or military in almost a decade. His statement has no basis in knowledge that he could posses. Need I say more about how ridicules it is to suggest Israeli casualties are FIVE times bigger than Israel claims without critical analysis? 79.177.135.243 (talk) 04:30, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I moved it to the Casualties section. It makes sense to mention it in the article, figures that come from a senior figure like Yaalon are notable. But on the other hand he's also a politician and therefore we shouldn't take them at face value.
I also replaced MEM which isn't considered fully reliable per WP:RSP with the original ynet article. Alaexis¿question? 21:51, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This has been added to the infobox again. @Alaexis Kajmer05 (talk) 20:38, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Alaexis, I apologize for the second tag, but Yedioth Ahronoth was quoted twice in 2 months. Now Anadolu Agency is shown as the source, but AA is generally considered unreliable for international politics. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Anadolu_Agency_(controversial_topics)] Also, the source says that military casualties are estimated by a military officer, not even a politician, as you said, we shouldn't take them at face value. These are already written in the casualties section, so I think there is no need to add them to the infobox. What are your thoughts? Kajmer05 (talk) 22:09, 22 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Kajmer05, sorry for not having answered earlier. I don't see this number in the infobox right now and in the casualties section it's properly attributed. Alaexis¿question? 09:06, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, a user used Yedioth again, [1] I removed their edit because AA is not a reliable source for international and they quote a military officer, not even a politician, so I reverted their edit, that's why I wanted to ask you. Kajmer05 (talk) 09:11, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I just found this article, it seems very underdeveloped, I wonder if there is a source that might provide a more complete list?
