Article requires a definition of terms

It refers to "Eighth generation", "the generation" and "this generation", without explaining what "generation" means in this context, what is the definition of the term, and who coined it. Who coined the term "Eighth generation"? Clearing article of misinformation and frankly vandalism

The Nintendo Switch is decidedly a 9th generation console (literally began the generation) and changes are being made to rectify this misinformation. The very stated metrics from the vandals in question that these consoles must be commonly talked about in tandem with one another to be considered of the same generation is hypocritical because not only is the Switch talked about in tandem with the PS5 and newest Xbox constantly, they were added to the lineup-discussion afterward and play second fiddle in terms of chronology. 9th Generation page will also be cleaned of all misinformation and vandalism as soon as possible, we need to do better guys.

Generations are released in "batches". When all companies have their latest console out, the Generation is "set". Thereafter when one of those companies releases a newly branded line of console (not slim or pro, new) the next "batch" and Generation is begun. You don't get to just up and decide that's not the fucking case. Putting two entirely separate Nintendo Home/Hybrid consoles in the same Gen literally serves no purpose on an informational level and just confuses everyone for no reason, are you people kidding me? That's not how generations are defined, they are defined by which consoles have been groups as competitors on the market. Just because most of the other generations line up when the competitors have all released a new console is a coincidence to this definition. Masem (t) 17:31, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Well first off all by that metric the Switch is decidedly a Gen 9 product because that's obviously where it's currently competing, in addition to where it's been competing for the longest. You people are forgetting that these release schedule batches are the thing that ultimately decided which consoles are going to compete with each other, so I can acknowledge that it's not necessarily THE defining trait but it's so 1:1 at this point the observation is kind of negligible. Oi, apparently I've got a poor memory and the Switch has never been included. You've got to be kidding me. None of this makes any sense. It competes in the current market, it's a new brand, 5 years is absolutely long enough for a Generation to end, it absolutely did mark a shift in the market's zeitgeist with the Steam Deck and PlayStation Portal, there is simply no justification for this at all.
