French name
[edit]I added the French name of this body alongside the Arabic, but I was reverted by this edit. Including the French name is relevant, even on the English Wikipedia, for the following reasons at least:
- It explains why the abbreviation is DRS.
- The French name must be frequently used by Algerians themselves. Although French is not an official language of Algeria, according to Media of Algeria, the daily newspapers with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th highest circulations are in French. In this context, the French name can be considered a secondary native name, whatever its official status.
- A search on Google Books restricted to English-language publications gives 36 results for "Département du renseignement et de la sécurité" Algeria, while a search for "Department of Intelligence and Security" Algeria only turns up 9.
In fact, now that I've seen the last statistic, I would question whether the article should even have been moved to this Anglicized title in the first place. 96.46.204.126 (talk) 23:14, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
Requested move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to Département du Renseignement et de la Sécurité. Favonian (talk) 21:53, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
Department of Intelligence and Security → Département du Renseignement et de la Sécurité – The French name appears to be about four times more common (in English-language references) than its English translation, based on Google Books searches linked to in the section "French name" above. (The word "Algeria" was included in the search query to ensure that unrelated instances of "Department of Intelligence and Security" were excluded from the results.) In case the move does not go forward, please also comment on whether the French name of the organization should be mentioned in the article.96.46.204.126 (talk) 03:07, 9 February 2012 (UTC) [Edit: Here are the searches again: [1], [2] 96.46.204.126 (talk) 04:07, 9 February 2012 (UTC)]
