Hi all - I see a couple of people added the fact of Liam Payne's death to this article, but then this was deleted as "not relevant" to Cheryl. I disagree, and hope others will give their views. While they were no longer in a relationship, he was the father of her only child, so the relationship was different to that of any other former partner. I think a brief sentence about his death would be appropriate, and I don't think that this would only be for "a fan site / Fandom article". I think it should be reinstated. Does anyone agree? There seems to be some opposition the inclusion of "Cheryl Cole" somewhere in the lead section. As the article stands right now, the article's prose does not mention anywhere that the subject of this article was previously known as "Cheryl Cole".
A few things to consider:
The subject of this article was very well known as "Cheryl Cole" for a large portion of her career. It was her WP:COMMONNAME, and she released multiple albums under that name.
The only place within the article that it is mentioned that she was known as "Cheryl Cole" is in the infobox. MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE states that "an article should remain complete with its infobox ignored", but in this case, ignoring the infobox means that the article would be incomplete, and a reader may have no idea she was commonly known as Cheryl Cole.
The Cheryl Cole redirect still receives thousands of monthly uses - an average of 6300 a month over the last year. [1]. At present, those redirects are being dumped out at an article that seems to have all mentions of "Cheryl Cole" erased.
I understand that including it in the first sentence could get messy given she has other names. A spot to incorporate it in the lead may be somewhere in the second paragraph around the mention of solo albums. That paragraph could potentially be reworked to mention that her first two solo albums were released as "Cheryl Cole" and then she released her third album as just "Cheryl" following the divorce. That would at least allow a layman reader to realize that "Cheryl (singer)" and "Cheryl Cole" are the same person. RachelTensions (talk) 03:56, 19 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
