Royal Mansour is a Moroccan luxury hotel group owned by the Moroccan Royal Family. Founded in 2010, the group operates high-end properties that emphasize Moroccan craftsmanship, architecture, and hospitality traditions. As of 2025, Royal Mansour operates three locations across Morocco: in Marrakech, Casablanca, and Tamuda Bay.

History

[edit]

The Royal Mansour brand was inaugurated in 2010 with the opening of its flagship property in Marrakech. It was commissioned by the Moroccan royal family to represent the country’s architectural heritage and artisanal skills in a luxury hospitality setting. Subsequent expansions in Casablanca and Tamuda Bay took place in 2024, positioning the brand among the country’s most exclusive hotel collections.

Properties

[edit]

Royal Mansour properties are noted for their emphasis on privacy, intricate Moroccan design, and integration with local cultural aesthetics.

Royal Mansour Marrakech

[edit]

The Marrakech property opened in 2010 and is located near the historic medina. It comprises 53 private riads, each with its own courtyard, rooftop terrace, and plunge pool. The hotel's layout was designed to resemble a traditional medina, and construction employed hundreds of Moroccan artisans to ensure architectural authenticity.[1][2]

Royal Mansour Casablanca

[edit]

The original Hôtel El Mansour opened in 1952 and became one of Casablanca’s notable establishments during the post-independence period. Known for its central location and upscale facilities, it hosted a range of political figures and celebrities over the decades. Later renamed Le Royal Mansour Meridien, the hotel closed in 2015 to undergo extensive renovations.[3]

Following its restoration, the property reopened in 2024 under the brand Royal Mansour Casablanca. It is located in Casablanca’s central Art Deco district and combines contemporary design with architectural elements reflecting the city’s early 20th-century urban character.[4][5]

Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay

[edit]

The Tamuda Bay resort, located on Morocco's Mediterranean coast, began operations in 2024. Positioned between Tétouan and Tangier, the beachfront property offers villas with sea views and facilities tailored to leisure and wellness tourism.[6]

Architecture and design

[edit]

Each Royal Mansour property is designed to reflect Moroccan craftsmanship and traditional building methods. Local artisans contribute to the tilework (zellige), wood carving, stucco, and textile decoration. The Marrakech hotel, in particular, was constructed using a network of underground service tunnels that allow staff to move unseen by guests, enhancing privacy.

Operations and management

[edit]

The Royal Mansour hotels are privately operated under the ownership of the Moroccan royal family. Day-to-day operations are led by hospitality professionals, with Jean-Claude Messant serving as General Manager of the Marrakech property as of 2025. The brand is marketed as a showcase of Moroccan luxury and culture.

Reception

[edit]

Royal Mansour properties have received positive reviews from travel publications and critics. The Marrakech location has been featured in lists of top global hotels by outlets such as Forbes, Condé Nast Traveler, and The Times. Reviewers have highlighted the attention to detail, privacy, and service quality.[7]
