Eddy Puyol (born July 4, 1979), who previously recorded under the name Rawsrvnt, is an American Christian rapper. He has released seven studio albums, five extended plays, several singles, and a few compilation albums with greatest hits.
Early life
[edit]Eddy Puyol (pronounced "pooh-yole")[1] was born on July 4, 1979,[2] in Miami, Florida.[3] He has two younger siblings, a sister, Sofia, and a brother, Roberto ("Bobby").[4][citation needed] His parents, Orlando and Susana (née, Smith), are both immigrants from Cuba.[5] They own and operate a learning center for children.[6][citation needed]
Career
[edit]Puyol debuted in 2006 with his In Rare Form album. UK-based website Cross Rhythms called the effort "the best ever fusion of hip hop and worship ministry" and noted that it was "the benchmark for all future rappers seeking to get beyond dissing demons and the evangelism-by-numbers content of much holy hip hop."[7]
Winter Jam Tour Spectacular hired Puyol to craft a theme song for their 2009 traveling showcase.[8]
In 2011, Puyol's No Ordinary Love album found its way on to the entry list for Best Gospel Album of the 54th Grammy Awards. "On Fire" appeared on the Billboard Christian Rock chart. [9][10]
Later that year, he joined the Music Inspired by The Story Tour, billed as a musical journey from Genesis to Revelation.[11] As part of the tour, he performed a medley segment on the 43rd Annual GMA Dove Awards.[12]
In 2012, Puyol created a hybrid EP with Jamaican reggae artist St. Matthew titled Soul Deep. The song "The Almighty" won the 2012 En Sound Music Award for Best Gospel Reggae Song.[13]
Puyol's music has been associated with various sports. He performed at Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade's birthday brunch,[14] and NASCAR driver Michael McDowell (racing driver) selected "On Fire" for his track introduction,[15][16] In 2021, ESPN licensed Puyol's "Sigue Pa' Lante" for a Monday Night Football telecast to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.[17]
Television
[edit]In 2010, Eddy Puyol was cast on Donald J. Trump Presents The Ultimate Merger reality television dating show. Puyol said, "Honestly, Christians have a hard time with this. I thought it would be cool to show what a real one looks like and how he approaches dating."[18] Puyol was eliminated in the third episode after having a one-on-one conversation with Omarosa in which he declared "I'm in love with Jesus, off top."[19]
Personal life
[edit]Puyol married Chrissy Alvarez on July 19, 2014.[20][21] They have two daughters.[22][23]
In July 2018, Puyol revealed that, although there were attempts made alongside church mentors and counselors, the couple ultimately could not reconcile their relationship and marital divorce proceedings were underway.[24]
On March 18, 2020, a short post on eddypuyol.com with a blurred image of a final judgement of dissolution of marriage suggested that the couple had divorced.[25]
On March 11, 2023 Puyol posted an Instagram photo showing a wedding ceremony.[26] His wife as of August 2025 is reportedly named Corinne.[5] They have a blended family of six with the addition of Corinne's son and daughter.[citation needed]
