[edit]

change Voiced retroflex lateral flap audio file from "Voiced retroflex lateral flap.wav" to "Voiced retroflex lateral flap (correct).wav"

Reason: The file is completely incorrect and also does not follow the IPA consonant a-consonant-a pattern. As a native Marathi speaker (which has this consonant), I can speak it correctly. The second file is my creation. Boganbane (talk) 21:41, 24 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

But what's the problem with the file just containing /ɭ̆a/? BodhiHarp (talk) 17:30, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Because it is inaccurate. The sound is not the voiced retroflex lateral flap. Boganbane (talk) 15:28, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What is it then? BodhiHarp (talk) 15:47, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It is hard to identify it with certainty, but I suspect it is ɹ (Voiced alveolar approximant). Most importantly, it has no lateral quality.
For comparison, check out the audio file for ळ on the Marathi page, which is [ɭ̆ɤ] (although the page itself denotes it as /ɭə/ because unicode does not support the character for the flap and ɤ is allophonic to ə in Marathi). Boganbane (talk) 16:08, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
✅ Done
And by the way, Unicode does support the unofficial flap letter, simply install the Andika font. BodhiHarp (talk) 16:47, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip! Boganbane (talk) 17:35, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
