Summary

Description

This is an excellent view of Akhenaten and Nefertiti at the Window of Appearances relief, West Wall from Ay’s EA25 South Tomb at Amarna. The western wall of the hall from the Tomb of Ay at Amarna--Southern Tomb 25 features the only completed decoration in the tomb and depicts Ay receiving rewards from Akhenaten who sits in the Window of Appearances.

Ay, who later became pharaoh himself and succeeded Akhenaten's son Tutankhamun to the throne, built his first tomb (EA25) at Amarna when he was still a nobleman and held the titles of “God's Father,”, “Overseeer of Horses,” as well as the “Fan Bearer on the Right Hand of the King.” Ay furthermore served as Vizier under both Akhenaten and Tutankhamun. Ay’s tomb features numerous papyrus shaped stone columns and is notable for featuring the longest surviving copy of the Great Hymn to the Aten, written to the sun-disk deity Aten out of all the Amarna tombs.
