Summary

Description The U.S. Navy Fulton-class submarine tender USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16) with four submarines in the 1960s at the Frontier Pier, US Naval Station San Juan, Puerto Rico. The first submarine is the GUPPY 1A-class boat USS Becuna (SS-319). The next is a "fleet snorkel" conversion with a large BQR-4A sonar, either USS Sterlet (SS-392), USS Sea Owl (SS-405), or USS Piper (SS-409). The last submarine, directly alongside Howard W. Gilmore, is USS Triton (SSN-586). All submarines were decommissioned in the late 1960s.
