| Description |
Seen from above, each of National Ignition Facility's two identical laser bays has two clusters of 48 beamlines, one on either side of the utility spine running down the middle of the bay/. The National Ignition Facility at LLNL enables key programs and technologies that support DOE's National Nuclear Security Administration Defense Programs and LLNL missions, ensuring that the national's weapons remain safe, secure and reliable. NIF, one of the cornerstones of DOE's stockpile stewardship program, will integrate the inertial confinement fusion program into the overall stockpile stewardship program and foster the development of associated laser technologies.
