Description
English: Ipswich Grammar School sketch, 1873 'Main building is listed on the basis of historic significance, being the first grammar school established under the Grammar Schools Act in the colony of Queensland and the first school at secondary level in Queensland. The main building, built in 1863, was designed by Benjamin Backhouse in Gothic Revival style and comprises classrooms, great hall, towers and dormitories. It is constructed of brick now rendered, is two storeys in height, and has a steeply pitched roof.'(Description supplied with photograph.)
