Bloom and leaf of Mojave Prickly-Pear Cactus (puntia mojavensis). Behind the north entrance station to Salton Sea State Recreation Area is a native plant garden. By taking photos of the plants and signs in this garden, I was able to recognize these plants in their native setting on the hike (see photos titled Creosote Bush and Ajamete). This photo of a Mojave Prickly-Pear Cactus was taken in the native plant garden. You can see the fronds of a palm tree in the background. There is a small pond in the shade of that palm with Pup Fish although we did not see any of these remarkable fish during our visit. SSA_0069 |
