DescriptionMirfield railway station geograph-2151166.jpg
English: Eastbound empties passing Mirfield Station.
View westward, towards Heaton Lodge Junction, Sowerby Bridge, Huddersfield and Manchester; ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire/London & North Western Manchester - Leeds/Wakefield etc. main lines. The photograph shows some of the Speed Signals - unusual in Britain - installed in 1932 on the exceptionally busy section of this dual trunk route between Heaton Lodge Junction and Thornhill Junction, which remained until 1969-70. (See also SE1919 : Freight trains on the Calder Valley main line near Mirfield).
