Description

Current description:
"The cover and base of this box are decorated with double portraits of the daughters of Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska: on the cover, Madame Victoire and Madame Adélaïde; on the base, Madame Louise and Madame Sophie. The grandchildren of Louis XV and Marie Leszczynska are depicted on the sides of the box: the duc de Berry, future Louis XVI, with a kite (on the front); Madame Clotilde holding a battledore and shuttlecock (on the left end); the comte d'Artois, future Charles X (on the right end); and the comte de Provence, future Louis XVIII (on the back). These enamel miniatures are related to portraits by Jean-Étienne Liotard, Jean-Martial Frédou, Maurice-Quentin de La Tour, and François-Hubert Drouais."

Former description:
"The box is decorated with images of the children of Louis XV and Queen Marie Leszczynska: Louise-Elizabeth and Marie-Adelaide (on the cover); Victoire-Louise and Sophie-Philippine (on the base); Louis the dauphin with a kite (on the front); Louise-Marie holding a battledore and shuttlecock for a racquet game (on the left end); and Philippe, duke of Anjou blowing bubbles (on the right end). As Philippe died in 1733, the images must be based on earlier portraits."
