DescriptionLeyland railway station 2058940 df372bb6.jpg
English: Leyland Station, with train.
View northward, towards Preston and Carlisle, also Blackpool etc.; ex-Lancashire Union (London & North Western (West Coast Main Line) & Lancashire & Yorkshire Joint), Crewe etc. and Manchester - Preston etc. main lines. This train, headed by Stanier Class 5 4-6-0 No. 44895, was the Summer Saturday 14.45 Blackpool North - Leicester London Road, which ran through Manchester Victoria onto the Midland line via Reddish. (On such a day expresses would have been tearing through Leyland every few minutes, to and from Blackpool and Morecambe as well as on the WCML - a thrilling stretch between Euxton Junction and Preston).
