Summary

Description

Gyeonghwon Sanseong (Gyeon Hwon Fortress)

Gyeon Hwon was born in Sangju and served as a military officer during shilla Dynasty, then founded the latter Baek Jae Dynasty in Wan San Ju during the fourth year of King Hyo Gong (Year 892). The fortress is constructed on the top of a mountain about 500m high, in a large circular shape with a frame around it. The circumference of the fortress is approximately 650m. Four watchtowers were built from natural rock walls to detect approaches from enemies. The method of building the uncommonly detailed fortress seems similar to that of Sam-Nyun Fortress in Chungbuk.
