Summary

Description

A rare large interior view of the Temple of the goddess Nekhbet built by king Amenhotep III at Wadi Hilal--a valley to the east of Elkab, Egypt. Elkab was called Nekheb in the native Egyptian language--a name that refers to Nekhbet, the goddess which was portrayed as a vulture. Although the temple is small, the carvings and colour are still well preserved more than 3300 years later. This Amenhotep III temple was later refurbished and expanded by the Ptolemaic period kings.
