Summary

Description

This is an excellent view from the entrance to the original Tomb of Ay at Amarna--Southern Tomb 25. Ay, who later became pharaoh himself and succeeded Akhenaten’s son Tutankhamun to the throne, built his first tomb (EA25) at Amarna when he was still a nobleman and held the titles of "God's Father," "Overseeer of Horses,” as well as the "Fan Bearer on the Right Hand of the King." Ay furthermore served as Vizier under both Akhenaten and Tutankhamun.

Ay’s tomb features numerous papyrus shaped stone columns and is notable for featuring the longest and most extensive surviving copy of the Great Hymn to the Aten, written to the sun-disk deity Aten, known to exist from of all the Amarna tombs.
