Summary

Description

This is a view of a nearly 12 metre (or 39.3 feet) deep shaft located in the inner hall of Penthu’s Amarna Tomb 5 which led to this person's burial chamber at Amarna, Egypt. It was designed as an obstacle to trap or stop tomb robbers from robbing Penthu’s burial but Penthu was ultimately not buried in his Amarna tomb since Amarna was abandoned within Penthu’s lifetime and parts of Penthu’s tomb show unfinished bare rock tomb chambers. Penthu himself was the "Royal scribe, First under the King, Chief servitor of the Aten in the Estate of the Aten in Akhetaten [or Amarna], chief of physicians" under Akhenaten.
