Summary

Description
English: Comparison of visible and near-infrared spectra of Ceres (red) and Hygiea (blue), the two largest C-type asteroids in the main asteroid belt. The curves were traced from visible (0.44-1.01 um) spectra from SMASS data hosted on the Planetary Science Institute & NASA Planetary Data System Small Bodies Node (PDS-SBN), and from JWST NIRSpec data (2.2-3.7 um) shown in Figure 1 of Rivkin et al. (2025). The 1.0-2.2 um parts of the curves were traced from Figure 7 of Vernazza et al. (2017). The spectra of Ceres and Hygiea are scaled relative to each other according to Figure 8 of Rivkin et al. (2025), and normalized at their peak reflectance at 2.7 um. The formatting and design of this plot is based on Figure 7 of Vernazza et al. (2017). Two vertical dashed lines at 2.72 um and 3.05 um mark the spectral absorption features of hydrated and ammoniated phyllosilicates, respectively.
